Selection criteria

Authenticity with Integrated Techniques

It assesses the object’s ability to translate a national or unique DNA characteristic of Portuguese culture. This criterion includes:

  • Portuguese identity
  • Exclusivity and Originality
  • Cultural and Social Impact

Examples of valued approaches:

  • The ability to combine local and foreign techniques in an innovative way.
  • Use of international materials transformed by a typically Portuguese production process.
  • Traditional techniques reinvented with the help of new technologies.

Innovation Capacity

The solution should be highlighted as a precursor to new approaches in the context of Portuguese design, proposing creative interpretations or breaking with the conventional use of materials, techniques or visual styles.

Functionality, Aesthetics and Sustainability

It evaluates design based on usability and functionality, aesthetic quality and visual impact, as well as the use of sustainable materials and low-environmental-impact practices, promoting a balance between beauty and ecological responsibility.
